MATCH REPORT FOR TURTON V SMRBL 30TH JUNE
Game played on slightly wet green.
Turton got off to a great start and took three out of the first four
blocks, and looking like at last their home green was going to see
them through. Bruce Womersley led the way with a well fought win
against Colin Price just edging it 21-19. Consistent John Mort was
always comfortable against Carl Parker to take the game 21-15. Lee
Bleakley came from the dead to edge out the excellent Alan
Broadhurst 21-20. Derek Allen was never in his game and Chris Heyes
saw him off 21-15. This put the homesters just 3 chalks up but 3
games to 1. Any hopes of
seeing off the Legionaires were dashed in the middle four, Martin
Bacon, Chris McDonald grabbing single figure wins and Glen Beeley
and Lee Turner winning also meant the home side were now in trouble.
SMRBL now led 5 games to 3 and had a 36 chalk advantage. Billy Munro
sealed it with a 21-11 win against Dave Hoyle with Kev Shaw
salvaging some pride with a 21-9 defeat of Dave Jenkinson. On
this evidence SMRBL are still hanging in there on the tail of Champs
Budies and if they show the same form will go close. Turton did well
against a very strong side and surely will do better against lesser
opposition, to give themselves a chance of staying ahead of the
struggling Nursery and avoiding the wooden spoon.
