MATCH REPORT FOR TURTON V GARSWOOD 5TH MAY
Conditions : Green wet, again but drying gradually.
The match opened with a fantastic game Bruce Womersley playing
Peter Marrow, Marrow played exceptionally well in the corners on a
soaked green but Womersley hung in there and eventually came out on
top 21-20. Mark Sheehy played consistently well to oust new signing
Peter Consterdine 21-18. Things at this stage were looking good for
Turton, then two losses ensued with Mike Page going down 12-21 to
Billy Speed, who played really well and D Allen losing 15-21 Ronnie
Belshaw. Turton were now 11 chalks behind and level at 2 games all.
Garswood then took 3 out of the next 4 games to gain control of
the match, Brian Naylor retaining his unbeaten status with a
cliffhanger 21-20 win over John Mort. Paul Culley seeing off Ken
Shaw 21-17 and Billy Farrell coming from a long way behind to see
off Paul Brabin. Turton hit back with a win for Harvey Moore 21-15
over David Taberner. However Turton were still in with a chance of
snatching the game, trailing 3 winners to 5 and only 14 chalks
behind, could they do it with David Hoyle and class player Kevan
Shaw to come?
David Hoyle kept the game alive with a 21-18 win over Neil
Bithell to reduce the arrears to 11, giving Shaw some chance, alas
Brian Darbyshire had different plans and played an excellent game to
overcome Shaw and record a 21-18 win to seal the match and give
Garswood a close but convincing 12-4 win
21up Man of the Match
Bruce Womersley for beating Peter Marrow who must have wondered
how he lost, the way he played!
