PREMIER
LEAGUE
MATCH REPORT FOR GARSWOOD V BUDENBERGS 28TH APRIL
With the rain holding off and the
green in good nick, the scene was set for an absorbing contest
between arguably the 2 best teams in the league. The stakes were
high and had been raised by Garswood's team orders of not
fraternising with the visitors. Game on.
The first four games were one way traffic. Geoff Telford maintained
his great start to the season with a comfortable win over Brian
Derbyshire 21-13. This was followed by an impressive 21-5 win by
Robert Hitchen over Ronnie Belshaw.
Andy Cairns dominated his
game over Nicky Shaw. The score stood at 16-8 in the big man's
favour and the game looked played. 15 minutes later, with Nicky in
the corners, Andy trailed 16-18. At 20-20, Andy managed to run the
jack and claim victory.
Chris Morrison and John
Taylor battled out an intriguing contest with the Warrington man
taking the spoils 21-17. Budenbergs led by 21 chalks after 4 jacks.
Billy Farrell raced into an 18-13 lead over Glynn Cookson. Glynn
battled back and led the jack out at 19-20. Unfortunately, Glynn was
unable to snatch the game.
Stuart Mort returned to his
old stamping ground and claimed a 21-15 win over Neil Bithell.
Graeme Wilson, full of a cold, played under par to trail Dave
Taberner 18-11. Dave was playing well and it required a change in
gear for Willy to get back in the game. This he did in style and
played a front toucher full corners to win the game 21-20.
Lee Lawton romped into an early
lead over Brian Naylor, but Brian clawed his way back into the game.
From then on it was nip and tuck with Brian just winning 21-18.
After 8 jacks, the lead was now 23.
Game 9 saw Eddie German battle Paul Culley. Again, the game was
tight and Paul just managed to find the chalks for a 21-16 win. The
final game of the night saw Dave Penketh race into a 16-11 lead over
Billy Speed. Speedy never gave up though and never let Dave score
another chalk winning 21-16. Dave can take consolation in the fact
that gained the vital chalks to claim the aggregate.
